Announcement #5, August 26, 2008:

Subaru FINAL RACE REPORT

The final race of the Subaru Karting Champtionship was hosted by Mosport Kart Club at Kawartha Speedway on Sunday August 24.  The NOVICE class had a field of four, with Trevor Rancier winning the final, Gregory Hovesen getting second, Cameron Tong getting third, and David Williamson finishing up in fourth.  Trevor Rancier won all races of the inaugural Subaru Novice and receives the first place prize package.

The competiton in the Subaru JUNIOR class was a little tighter, and came down to the final race.  With a field of seven racers, Sid Nye led all 10 laps of the first heat race, and David Papais led all 10 laps of the second heat race.  This led up to a very exciting 15-lap final to say the least.  David took the early lead, with Sid hot on his bumper.  On lap 9, Sid made his move to take the lead.  On lap 14, David and Sid swapped positions once again, but on the last lap Sid made a final charge to claim the lead and the win.  This race featured several other exciting position changes:  Jeremy Steinhausen started in third and finished fifth; Heather Judge started fourth and ended the race in third.  After all the racing was over, it was Jeremy Steinhausen who won the Championship for the Subaru Junior class.

Congratulations to all participants of the 2008 Subaru Junior Karting Championship Series.

Final points have been posted (see the Subaru link on the TKC website, and select POINTS from the Subaru main page).  Stay tuned in the upcoming weeks to see the plans for the 2009 season.

Announcement #4, May 28, 2008:

Subaru Set-up and Testing Day -- REPORT

The weather was great for the introduction of the Subaru Motor Program on May 24 at 3-S GoKarts in Sutton.  This was the first time that the motors have been seen under race conditions in Canada.  The day started a little late but everyone made it on the track and had a fun day.

These motors have a low RPM torque level and that challenged the racers and their mechanics as to what gear to run.  We held a mock 5-lap race for both the Novice and Junior Pro classes.  Everyone was very happy to see the motors go through their paces and perform as expected.

Practice went until 2:00 pm, at which time the motors were returned to the Subaru trailer.  The motors will be inspected and prepped for the first race, at Kawartha Speedway, in conjunction with Mosport Kart Club, on June 29.  Check out pictures from our set-up and test day on the Photos Page

Announcement #3, May 21, 2008:

The Subaru Karting Championship is having its Set-up and practice day at the 3-S Go Kart track in Sutton on Saturday May 24th.  Click the attachment below for the agenda and location.

On May 18th the Toronto Kart Club attended a Meet and Greet day at the Subaru Head Office in Mississauga. The weather did not cooperate as we would have hoped, but we did meet many key people.

This was the first time that we had the opportunity to meet Mr.Takahashi, Director of Karting for Subaru. His enthusiasm and true intent to help the kids through Subaru's participation in karting is very evident.  We cannot thank him enough for placing his trust in us to bring the Subaru program to Canada through the Toronto Kart Club, with the additional cooperation of Mosport Kart Club.

Other key members of the Subaru Canada Corporation that attended the launch were very excited to see the karts, have their children sit in the karts and hear about the amazing opportunities that Subaru is bringing to both karting and the product line.

Mr. Filippini of Subaru Canada was shocked and extremely excited at the presentation as well as the information that he heard from the Subaru director. He has asked for the karts, drivers, program directors and the full information to be presented again to the members of Subaru Canada HQ's. He has many members of his staff and other departments that could not make the Sunday event, but have requested to see what is happening. These staff members are the very people we are looking to bring into our program.  Mr. Filippini felt confident that the interest from his staff is very large, as most have children of their own looking seriously at the opportunity. The presentation will return later this week to Subaru HQ's.

We had a few TKC members come out and meet the organizers as well as a few "Subaru Owners Club" members and their families.

With the support of Subaru Canada's head office and with these people on board, this is the beginning of the something very special for Subaru Karting. The concept that took over 14 months to come together is now in full activation, and preparations are starting for the other international locations. In the final stages -- be it international or North America -- it started here with the TKC.

May 24 Subaru Test Day -- agenda and address

Announcement #2, May 15, 2008:

We have received information from Fuji Industries Head Office to bring Subaru Canada, Auto Division on line to support this series.  Below is the news release from Subaru's Director of Karting, Yosuke Takahashi.

We have a MEET & GREET on Sunday May 18 at Subaru Head Office in Mississauga from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.

The address is at the top of the news release, in the link below.  Please read the full release and invitation.   We realize there are karting activities taking place on this long-weekend, but if you can find some time, we would love to see you.

Additionally, we have enough entrants in this series to split into two classes (see below).  This also means that the prize packages will now be DOUBLED!!

NOVICE age 8 to 11 (experienced racers) -- EX17 motor
NOVICE age 11 to 16* (inexperienced drivers) -- EX17 motor

              JUNIOR PRO age 11 to 16*  --  EX21 motor

Weights for both classes will be determined and announced shortly.
* Must be 15 years of age at start of racing season, and can be turning 16 in 2008.

Because we have split the classes, we now have room for additional entrants.  Anybody who is still interested in participating in this program will be permitted to register, with a new registration deadline of June 16.  Registration form can be found at the top of this page.  Please note though, that the on-track testing day is still scheduled for May 24 at Sutton -- so don't delay if you still wish to participate and take advantage of this extra day.

We are scheduled to be at the Sutton track on Saturday May 24 at 8:00 am for set-up and testing.  All Subaru program registrants will need to RSVP their attendance at the testing day, no later than May 22.  Please send your RSVP to tkcpres2008@torontokartclub.com .
